Unalloyed DIN 1.0570

Unalloyed structural steel with higher strength

DIN 1.0570 is a non-alloyed structural steel with increased strength, also known under the trade name S355 . It has good mechanical properties, is easily weldable and is widely used in mechanical engineering, construction and steel construction. It is characterized by impact resistance at low temperatures (–20 °C).

Alternative designation: S355, St52.3, ČSN 11523
Type: Non-alloy structural steel

Heat treatment:

  • Normalizing annealing: approx. 890–940 °C

  • Soft annealing or stress relief annealing after welding possible

  • Not intended for heat hardening – used in the as-delivered condition

Features:

  • Good weldability without the need for preheating (up to approx. 25 mm thick)

  • Higher yield strength (~355 MPa)

  • Good ductility and toughness

  • Resistant to breakage at low temperatures (impact test at -20°C)

  • Good machinability in the hot rolled condition

  • Not suitable for hardening (not hardenable steel)

Use:

  • Steel structures, beams, profiles

  • Frame structures of machines and equipment

  • Building parts, steel bridges

  • Pressure vessels and boiler components (after approval according to the standard)

  • Structures exposed to both dynamic and static stress
